When
admiring the forms, textures and glazes, observers
tend to focus on the aesthetics of each piece:
evocative of Costa Rica`s plants, wildlife and
human creations, the ceramics produced by Gema
are simultaneously unique and universal.
It is less obvious to imagine the complex workmanship
that goes into every piece shaped by Gema`s hands.
Only a handful of potters have truly mastered
these delicate techniques the way we have in Taller
Ceramico Ossenbach, established almost three decades
ago.
Our Ceramics are not mass produced. Each piece
is one-of-a-kind, every one inspired by the natural
and human beauty around us in Costa Rica. Each
is intended to reflect this spirit in your home,
your office or any other of your personal spaces.
THE PROCESS THAT MAKES OUR WORK UNIQUE
The red clay is hand thrown on the wheel.
The pieces thus formed are decorated and finished
manually, then fired a first time to biscuit.
This allows for the glazes to be applied, also
by hand. For a second time in the kiln, this time
at temperatures ranging from 1180ºC to 1230ºC,
the glazes melt, developing their final colors
and textures. All clay and glazes were developed
in our workshop, each the result of a long experimental
process. They constitute our best kept secrets.
